ABOUT ECUADORIAN AMAZON RAIN FOREST

Amazon Rain Forest the most complex and self-sufficient ecosystem in the world covers approximately 45% of the total area of Ecuador (125,000 km2).An impressive variety of animals and wonderful plants can be found. Precipitation can be as high as 5,000mm per year and the average temperature is 27 C.

The richness of the Amazon area is not restricted to its exuberant flora and abundance of fauna but also to its hydrographic; having a navigable river called Napo as the main tributary of the Amazon River.
The inhabitants of the Ecuadorian Amazon include Quichua, Shuar, Huaorani, Cofanes and Secoya ethnic groups. Although many of them have been converted to Christianity by missionaries, they still retain their customs and language.
